Meaning: Pinan means "Peace & Harmony" or "Peaceful Mind", and is the first part of the Pinan
Kata. It was developed by the great Shuri Te master Anko Itosu, who originally intended for the Pinan Katas to be one
whole Kata. However, he later broke it into five parts to simplify it as a teaching tool for his beginning students.
Starting Position: Facing North, Horse Stance
- Direction: West Stance: Left Cat Stance Action: Turn 90 degrees Left, and execute a Left Outside Block
- Direction: West Stance: Right Front Action: Right Reverse Punch
- Direction: North Stance: Horse Action: Turn 90 degrees right, and execute a Right Low Hammerfist, followed by a Right High Hammerfist
- Direction: East Stance: Left Front Action: Left Reverse Punch
- Direction: North Stance: Left Front Action: Turn 90 degrees left, and execute a Left Low Block
- Direction: North Stance: Right Front Action: Right High Block
